Galway – 2018

The 14th Annual Conference of the International Society for Design and Development in Education was held May 28th-31st, 2018, for the first time in Ireland, on campus, in the beautiful surroundings of the the National University of Ireland, Galway.

Hosted by the School of Education, NUI Galway, the 2018 conference theme was that of ‘Culture and Educational Design’, reflecting the importance of the broader social, cultural and physical environs in the participatory and principled design of educational innovations and technologies. Highlights of the conference included the keynote addresses by leading educational designers internationally; the intimate and highly participatory working format and atmosphere of the conference, (a particular, special quality of the annual ISDDE meetings); and the social programme, which included the conference banquet at the historic Hotel Meyrick in the centre of Galway City. At the conference, Nick Jackiw, Stanford Research Institute (SRI) International, was announced as the winner of the 2018 ISDDE Prize for Excellence in Educational Design, for the design of a single product: Geometer’s Sketchpad, which has had a significant impact on education and educational design internationally.
